In order to selcet a most suitable polymer as retention aid,we should make sure the purpose of using polymer,normally they are used to improve the ability of drainage and/or retention,also we should take the type of fibers and fillers into consideration.High molecular weight polymer has better performance in retention,and low molecular weight polymer is good at drainage.
